Cleveland Unveils New Uniforms After Being Lebron’d
Category Sports
Like Utah, the Cavs have gone a little retro, incorporating design elements from two of their 1970s uniforms. It’s an old-school look, but not so much that it’ll look like they’re wearing throwbacks every game. Plus, they got rid of that atrocious script that was across the front of their previous jerseys. Now all they need is to figure out some kind of logo that doesn’t look like a Tampa Bay Buccaneers rip-off and they’ll be golden. Well, wine and golden, but still.
So yeah, great update. Love the colors, love the simplicity, love the fonts and the piping and everything. These are almost as nice as the wine-and-gold throwbacks Cleveland has been known to wear, and that’s quite the accomplishment.
What are your thoughts on the ol’ switcheroo?! Yay or Nay?!

Nike Dunk – PGA Championship 2010 Edition
I’m not sure I’m allowed to do this but I’m sure Nike has already released these since the shoes have been given away to the PGA Tour players (I got this from someone who got it from someone else who got it from someone else LOL). Check out the special edition Dunks Nike did for all the Nike sponsored players who participated in this past weekend’s 2010 PGA Championship Open at Whistling Straits. You see Tiger’s pair?
Jeff Van Gundy’s Words Of Wisdom

I was away from a computer much of the weekend, so forgive me for being 48 hours late on this. While LeBron, D-Wade and others were having open gym with Barack, one third of ESPN/ABC’s broadcasting trio, Jeff Van Gundy, found himself in front of a microphone this weekend. The man who once clung to Alonzo Mourning’s left leg for dear life expects an epic season from the result of Riley’s brain trust, Wade’s convincing and LeBron’s “Decision.” Like 73-9, epic.
“They will break the single-season win record [of 72],” Jeff Van Gundy said. “And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers’ 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.
“They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected,” Van Gundy added. “There is now no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will.
“And with Erik Spoelstra coaching, they will be in the top three defensive teams in the league, as well. The other 29 teams better hope the lockout gets moved up a year.”
Well, damn. JVG also went on to proclaim the Lakers as the only team in the league who stands a chance in a playoff series versus the Heat. I’m no NBA analyst. Hell, I’m only like one of the writers of this lifestyle blog and quite frankly, I’d love to see LBJ get a ring. But really, Jeff? Seventy-two wins seems hard enough, but when you consider you’re only allowed for nine bad games to break the record, that’s damn near impossible. And it’s not like the East isn’t stacked this year. Let’s just hope someone interviews his brother Stan. Given his tendency to yell at a moment’s notice and his apparent disdain for his fellow Floridian NBA franchise, we’d be in for a treat.
Seriously though, at this point, I don’t know who’s gunning to beat the Heat more: the other 29 teams or the groupies on South Beach.

Curling with the Stars!!!
Category Sports
From 49ers.com
When Vernon Davis left the Vancouver Olympics in February, the Pro Bowl tight end had a new passion.
After serving as the honorary captain for the United States men’s curling team, Davis knew he wanted to maintain his relationship with the curlers and try to spread awareness about the sport in any way possible.
On Wednesday night he did just that.
Davis hosted the inaugural Curling with the Stars charity event at Sharks Ice in San Jose, giving sports fans a chance to learn how to curl from the US men’s Olympic team. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Davis Family Foundation and the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Association.
“I’ve become best friends with the men’s curling team and I am excited that they came out here for this event,” Davis said. “It’s great that we can come together for charity and to help the sport of curling.”
Along with Davis, fellow tight end Delanie Walker, linebackers Takeo Spikes and Parys Haralson, safety Taylor Mays and 49ers alumni Keena Turner and Guy McIntyre all took part in the event.
“This is just the epitome of what we have been doing this entire summer,” Spikes said. “A couple of guys have had camps, some had foundation dinners, and everybody has come together to support each other.”
The night began with dinner hosted by Davis and a silent auction. Some of the items auctioned for charity included a signed Davis Pro Bowl jersey, a pair of his signed cleats and autographed jerseys of all four Team USA curlers.
Then it was time to hit the ice, but there were some notable absences from the curling competition.
With training camp right around the corner, the 49ers wanted to make sure they were healthy and so couldn’t risk going out on the ice.
But they all wanted to.
“If you tell Coach Singletary you got hurt curling, I don’t know if you’re going to be there the next day,” Walker joked. “I know Vernon wanted us to get on the ice, but Singletary got on Vernon so we’re all going to stay off the ice and come in to camp ready to go.”
Instead they watched from the sidelines, and even though all the athletes are very competitive, they conceded that Davis would likely win an all-49ers curling competition.
“Vernon would probably win, he has the most exposure to the sport from when he was in Vancouver,” Spikes admitted. “But maybe I can sneak out somewhere and do a little curling on my own before I get the chance to go against him.”
Before the event began Wednesday, Davis got an opportunity to repay the curling team for their hospitality in Vancouver by spending a couple days with them in the Bay Area and giving them a tour of the 49ers Santa Clara practice facility.
Davis said it was all part of his attempt to bring new people into the sport of curling, and the curlers themselves couldn’t be happier.
“Having Vernon involved is really special because it elevates the visibility of the sport,” said John Benton, who was a member of the 2010 Olympic curling team. “Since Vancouver, there have been eight or nine new clubs that have formed in the United States.
“It is pretty neat to see the sport grow in non-traditional areas.”
But Davis isn’t satisfied with new clubs popping up around the country.
He said after he retires from the NFL he wants to give professional curling a try, and by then he hopes it will be a mainstream sport.
“When I walk out of my door in the morning, I want to see kids walking down the street with a curling jersey on,” he said. “Or maybe wearing curling shoes. I want it to grow as big as it can.”

Pacquiao and Margarito – November 13
Since Money Mayweather is afraid… yes I said “afraid,” to fight pacman, looks like Margarito will get his chance against the fighting pride of the Philippines.
“We’ll finalize everything this week,” Arum said.
Margarito was chosen for the lucrative payday over junior middleweight titleholder Miguel Cotto, Arum said, because Pacquiao has already defeated Cotto once. The Margarito fight will likely be for the WBC super welterweight title that Sergio Martinez vacated earlier this year.
A victory would give Pacquiao titles in a record eight weight divisions.
“Antonio is so much bigger than he is, it’s a very attractive fight,” Arum said. “Cotto, we figure, should have another fight this winter and shown the improvement he’s made under (new trainer) Emanuel Steward and then we could look at him maybe next year.”
The fight was made relatively quickly after Mayweather allowed a deadline set by Top Rank for a proposed megafight to pass without a word last weekend. Mayweather told the AP two days later that he isn’t thinking about boxing at all following his one-sided victory over Shane Mosley in May.
“I’m not interested in rushing to do anything,” Mayweather said.
Why?!?! Because Mayweather scurred!!!!

Jason Kidd thinks the Miami Heat will ‘hurt the NBA’
Category Sports
Our East Bay hero has some opinions about the Lebron move…
J-Kidd states,
“Well, I think we would love to spread everybody out. We had 10 or 15 of the top players on separate teams, where guys were coming into town and they could sell tickets. It’s not going to be easy for teams to sell tickets in Cleveland or Toronto now because those guys aren’t on the team. I think everybody can say Miami will sell out wherever they go all year, but that hurts the NBA in the sense of selling tickets. It’s just for them to go West, teams are only going to see them once, and then on the East coast they only go there twice, so it may be disappointing on that aspect but when you talk about just straight basketball it will be interesting and fun to watch.”
Personally, I want to see what the heat does next season….
