Have you tried 5 Guys Burgers and Fries?

So after going to the beach, my friends and I decided to experience the hype of the new (at least to the bay area) burger joint. Upon walking in, I noticed that the décor was strikingly similar to that of In N Out. The red and white colors relayed along the walls of the restaurant down to the polo shirts the employees were wearing.

The menu seemed simple enough – burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and fries. However, what set this place aside from other restaurants was the options of what you’re able to add for free. The list goes as follows: mayo, relish, onion, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grill mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A1 Sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. Considering that I’m paying $6 for a burger, I think being given the option of adding as many toppings to my burger as possible would suffice.

The service was like any other fast food burger joint. The wait time was about 10-15min. Upon receiving my bag of food, I immediately thought of elementary school where I was packed lunches in brown bags. When I opened the bag to see its contents it reminded me of elementary school even more, except that rather than my mother packing my lunch, it was me who did it haphazardly. The fries looked like they were slam dunked in there and some where hiding was my foil covered bacon cheese burger(again, a nostalgic memory of my elementary past).

After unwrapping my burger I took my first bite and desperately tried to experience the same bliss others have. Nothing. I continued on all the way to my last bite and halfway through my fries and still nothing. I thought the burger was “ok” at best. Not exactly something I’d crave for and definitely left me unsatisfied with respect to its hype. Everything about the burger was good, but if you line your walls, including your bathroom, with every single award winnable to making cheeseburgers, I need to experience a wow factor – something that will set you above the rest.

Collectively, as a total experience, I’d give this place an 82%. The place was incredibly clean, especially the bathroom. The décor felt more like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant. Would I recommend this place to a friend? Sure. In comparison to In N Out, 5 Guys is good change, but I’m still rooting for the home team and In n Out outdoes 5 Guys.

DJ FREE’s Chowdown of Choice // Volume 2 – Paxti’s Pizzeria

I’ve been to Chicago once in my life and of course while I was there, one thing was a must – deep dish pizza. Now I don’t think I’ve ever met a bad pizza in my life, but I have met several amazing pies. Deep dish definitely has its ups; layers of your favorite toppings, cheesy goodness, and portion satisfaction. And since I’m about a 6 hour flight from Chi-town, I look towards the next best thing; Paxti’s.

Pronounced as Pah-cheese, the pizzeria is located in downtown Palo Alto and San Francisco. You can create your own from a very wide list of toppings or you can order specialities such as the Californian (whole wheat crust, low fat mozzarella cheese, red onions, and fresh spinach). Whichever way you choose, you will be a happy camper!

Paxti’s
441 Emerson St, Palo Alto, 94301
or
511 Hayes St, SF, 94102

MoGo Korean BBQ Taco Truck

Dropped off parents at the Shark’s game – CHECK!

Hit up my boy Ian to see if he’s down to kick it – CHECK!

My boy asks me to roll with him to follow the MoGo Truck – WTF?!

That was my night in a nutshell!

If you are familiar with Koji’s Korean BBQ taco truck in SoCal, then MoGo BBQ is the substitute for it.

Nestled in….well I can’t tell you the location for it’s random, MoGo offers some delectable and enormous servings of Korexican or Mexirean (Korean and Mexican….think ppl THINK!) taco truck grub. With offerings like Quesadillas and Tacos to their flare and unique touch to a burrito and sliders, the food was worth the drive and the best part of the food was finding it. Like a thief in the night we hunted and stalked the truck from Capitol & Tully all the damn way to El Camino & Lawrence. We came; we saw; we conquered & devoured!

I am one of those La Vic’s fanatics that now a thing or two about flavors (well not really since my burrito would be soaked with that orange sauce!) the I had doubts of this burrito being anything but good.

SMH, boy was I totally wrong!

From the super short wait for the food to be prepared to the simple wrapping, one would be thwarted in the WOW department. Once you get this enormous hunk of “awesomeness rolled in a burrito” in your grasps, the size slaps you in your damn face….peep this! It’s not the length that matters but the thickness….
OMFG that beast of a burrito nearly weighed a pound in my opinion

All BS aside, that doesn’t even matter since the contents within the tortilla will give you a complete Double McTwist 1260 (Shaun White fans rejoice!!) on your taste buds. The flavors were on point. The homemade slaw with the rice and the chipotle sauce was epic! Then came the Short rib (made by them and not store bought) was the difference maker. The sweetness from the short rib marinade fused perfectly with the creaminess & heat from the sauce and the MoGo BBQ vinaigrette in the veggie slaw. If that isn’t watering your mouth as it is mine then I guess the following saying fits like a glove – “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

In conclusion, MOGO’S KOREAN BBQ TACO TRUCK IS A MUST SEE, MUST TRY, AND MUST FIND IN THE AREA! Nuff said but you don’t have to take my word for it….just enjoy the pics and have your eyes have a feast of what my stomach partied with!

Big ups Steve and Sam for entertaining me while I was binge eating on that short rib burrito and kept me and my boy company in the damn cold. They have a strong following that is worth the time to find & hunt down!

See y’all round the MoGo truck….

**UPDATE**
as of 03/14/10 yours truly has feasted on the sustenance of MoGo 3 times in a row – not counting Friday since it rained.

The $50 tabasco shot

Posted 23 Feb 2010 — by chicano sj
Category Food

This all happened when we were at a friends house for his birthday 2years ago looking for something to do. We had a costco size bottle of Tabasco, some shot glasses, and also some red plastic cups. I also just got paid the day before and had some cash on me. So first I bet our homie AJ, “aye bro, i’ll give you $5 if you take a double shot of tabasco.” he replied “No, how about $10?”. Alright deal. He took the shot and took my money. He felt it the burn really bad after and was done.

So sometime has passed and a couple more friends show up. One of these guys we know wouldn’t turn down a bet.  So we are all just chopping it up about whatever and start talking about alright whose down to kill the rest of this Tabasco we got? Everyone looks at our homie and say you ain’t down. He replies “yea if someone pays me to do it.” I than put the $50 and say “there’s the money. Do it.”

There was only one rule to get the $50.  He Has to finish all the Tabasco in the cup. I didn’t think he could do it but he proved me wrong and took my money. That is probably the worst way I have lost $50 in my life…….

Well I was reminded of this video because it showed up on a website about people doing Tabasco shots
